Doctrine Matters

Christians have the high calling of being found faithful servants of our Lord Jesus Christ and trustworthy stewards of the mysteries of God (1 Corinthians 4:1-2). Grace Underground Fellowship chooses to embrace this calling joyfully and with humility. Therefore, each statement below reflects our biblical convictions regarding the sound doctrines of Scripture.

Our shorter doctrinal statement is below – the longer statement is currently being worked on. Once each statment is completed, it will be added below.

God the Son

The Son of God is not a created being, and all created things were created through Him and by Him. He became flesh through miraculous conviction in a virgin woman’s womb, was born and named Jesus. He lived faithfully without sin, died for the sins of the world, was buried, and physically rose form the dead on the third day according to the scriptures.

(Matthew 17:22-23; 27:1-28:9; Mark 9:31; 15:1-16:8; Luke 9:22; 18:33; 23:1-24:8; John 1:1-4; 14-18; 2:19-22; 19:1-20:18; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Colossians 1:15-18; Hebrews 1:1-2; Revelation 1:8, 11-18)

The Bible

The 66 books of the Holy Scriptures are verbally inspired, infallible, inerrant in the original manuscripts, and is our final authority for doctrine and practice. The Bible must be interpreted as language is normally used, recognizing the importance of historical, grammatical, and dispensational contexts.

(Psalm 119:89; Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 5:18; Luke 24:27, 44; John 5:39; 16:12-13; Acts 1:16; 17:2-3; Romans 15:4; 1 Corinthians 2:9-10, 13; 10:11; Ephesians 1:10; 3:9; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; James 1:21; 1 Peter 1:10-12, 23-25; 2 Peter 1:3-11, 20-21)

Salvation from Eternal Death

This salvation is a free grace gift, given instantly and irrevocably to all who simply believe in Jesus Christ apart from works for eternal life. It is the reception of the very life of Jesus Christ with the promise of a future bodily resurrection to one day live forever with Him on Earth.

Commitments to obey, sorrow for sin, turning from one’s sin, water baptism, submission to the headship of Christ, or any other act of obedience does not earn, maintain, or verify the reception of this free grace gift.

Assurance of eternal life is based solely on the promise God makes in His Word, that everyone who has believed in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life has it and can never lose it. Therefore, the onus rests completely and unequivocally upon God’s faithfulness to keep His promise.

(John 1:12; 3:16-18; 4:1-26; 5:24; 6:37-40, 47-51; 10:27-30: 11:21-27; 20:31; Acts 16:30-32; Romans 3:19-4:5; 8:38-39; Galatians 2:16; Ephesians 2:1-10; 1 Timothy 1:15; Titus 3:3-7; 1 John 5:9-13; Revelation 22:17)

The Body of Christ

Upon believing in Jesus Christ for eternal life, a person becomes part of the Universal Church, the Body of Christ. Every spiriutal blessing in the heavenly places is ours through our union with Christ. The Holy Spirit distributes a unique gift to each believer for the purpose of mutual edification within the Body. Every member of the Universal Body of Christ is free from the Mosaic Law in its entirety and is instructed to live under our head Jesus Christ, guided by the Holy Spirit instead of by the flesh.

Believers have a high calling to walk worthy of God’s grace by endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. We are to accomplish this by the Holy Spirit through humility, gentleness, and long suffering, bearing with one another in love. Any divisiveness indicates that the believer is in a spiritually immature state.
